McLea, Duncan Fraser
drawing, ink on card, entitled Dutch Schooner Stranded at Bamburgh, by the artist Duncan Fraser McLea
The picture shows a Dutch Schooner stranded at Bamburgh, an event which happened in the early 1880s. In the background is Bamburgh Castle. This pen and ink drawing is very precise, carefully capturing every tiny detail, with shadow and tone being created with hatched and cross-hatched lines. Duncan Fraser McLea specialised in portraits, and marine and landscape subjects. He was well known for scenes of the local coast and shipping.
