Image description

Professor Gennaro Goglia, now 78, looks up as he paints at his studio in downtown Rome June 1, 2001. Goglia still vividly recalls how in 1963, hours after Pope John XXIII died of stomach cancer, he was picked up by a Vatican car and was asked to secretly insert a special liquid into the dead pontiff's veins. Pope John XXIII's body was today shown to the world as his glass coffin lay just feet from Pope John Paul II as he delivered mass in saint Peter's Square. Picture taken June 1, 2001. DJM/AA
