Rene Duenkler, Ingenieur (RF and Microwave Design Department) attaches a football with a microchip in a special room for the measuring of electromagnetic waves to see, if the microchip sends information uniformly in all directions. A German company is working on a new high tech system for soccer, that has a microchip built into the shin pads of all 22 players on the pitch and inside the ball, that could one day help referees on close and controversial calls, such as whether the ball crossed the goal line, whether the offensive players were off-sides or whether the ball went out of bounds.
