William Beilby (1740-‑1819) View of the Red Heugh near Newcastle, 1774 Watercolour and pencil Height 10.2 x Width 16 cm TWCMS : M738 In the late 18th century, the Newcastle city boundaries were still some distance away from the fields at Redheugh, beside the River Tyne. This is now the site of the Redheugh Bridge, Newcastle. This watercolour is part of a group of sketches of North East and London scenes, painted by William Beilby in 1774. Beilby was a Newcastle decorator of expensive glassware, and a drawing teacher.
