First King's or Royal Guidon, Sussex Corps of Fencible Cavalry, 1794-1800. The regiment was raised by Sir George Thomas of Dale Park Sussex. The letter of service authorizing the formation of the regiment was dated 31 March 1794. In the first week 27 men were recruited for the first Troop and plans were put forward to raise two more troops. Until June 1795 men were joining at a rate of three per day and the quarters at Midhurst and Petworth were no longer adequate. The regiment was disbanded in 1802.
