Commuters in two of Europe's major financial centres faced a nightmare journey home on Wednesday as striking transport workers brought parts of their cities to a standstill. In London, millions of commuters had to cope without the "Tube", the world's oldest subway system, after workers staged the first of two 24-hour strikes in a long-running dispute about pay.
