Kavalierstour. Zur vollstandigen Bildung studierender junger Herren gehorte fruher die sogenannte Kavalierstour: das Reisen in fremde Universitaten, meist in Begleitung des Hofmeisters. Zweck dieser Reisen (oft ins Ausland) war, neben wissenschaftlicher Bildung Welt- und Menschenkenntnis und die Anschauung fremder Sitten. (Vorlaufer des internationalen Studenten-Austausches.) Translation: Grand Tour. The so-called grand tour used to be part of the complete education of young men studying: traveling to foreign universities, usually accompanied by the tutor. The purpose of these trips (often abroad) was, in addition to scientific education, knowledge of the world and people and the study of foreign customs.
