Image description

The 73-year-old Shanghai Concert Hall sits in its new location after the entire building was moved some 66 meters (216.5 feet) from its original spot in the heart of China's financial hub, June 18, 2003. The historic 1930 concert hall was moved due to traffic noise and as part of the city's preservation and beautification projects. The 5,650-tonne building, which can seat 1,122 people, was designed by Chinese architects Fan Wenzhao and Zhao Chen, one of the few Western-style buildings designed by the Chinese in Shanghai.
