The diagonal movement of the waves and clouds evoke a sense of strong winds and rapid movement. James Henry Cleet was a talented amateur painter and professional photographer in his home town of South Shields. His photographs and paintings create an invaluable record of Tyneside at a time when it was undergoing rapid change.
