This photograph was taken during King George V and Queen Mary's journey to India aboard the H.M.S. Medina for the Delhi Durbar that was held on December 12 1911; The Thread-needle race requires a male-female partnership and begins with the men racing each other to their partner with a length of thread whereupon the female partner must thread a needle that she is holding with the thread so that her partner can race back to the start line with the threaded needle; Queen Mary (1867-1953) is the second woman on the right hand side of the photograph, wearing a straw boater-style hat;
