Image description

Passing-out Inspection of Cadets, Cranwell. In the Royal Air Force it is usual for candidates for regular commissions to undergo a course of instruction at the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell, Lincolnshire. The candidate enters the College between the ages of 17 1/2 and 19 1/2 years. During his two years' stay at Cranwell, he receives instruction in such subjects as mechanics, applied mathematics and draughtsmanship, as well as undergoing a course of physical training. Perhaps most important of all is the instruction in actual flying, including "blind" flying, bombing and general navigation; by the end of the two years, the Cadet has become a fully qualified pilot. At the end of the course the Cadets take part in the customary Passing-out Inspection. Illustration for one of a set of 50 cigarette cards on the subject of Interesting Customs and Traditions of the Navy, Army and Airforce issued by Lambert & Butler in 1939.
