Battle of Quiberon Bay was turning point in the Seven Years' War on 20th November 1759, decisive British victory. King George II (1683-1760) seated on left; Admiral (Lord) George Anson (1697-1762), First Lord of the Admiralty; Sir Edward Hawke (1705-81) Admiral of the Fleet ; unknown - maybe Admiral Sir Charles Hardy. Hawke's ship was the Royal George. Defeat of the French fleet under Admiral Conflans; George Anson (of the Anson family of Shugborough Hall) as First Lord from 1745-62, reformed the dockyards and introduced the practice of half-pay for officers.
