Crown of Bohemia, also known as the Crown of Saint Wenceslas, 1938 (colour litho)

Made in 1347 for Charles IV of Luxembourg (1316-78), King of Bohemia (1446-78) and dedicated by him to Saint Wenceslas, patron saint of Bohemia, to be used at coronations of future Bohemian kings; last used in 1836 for the coronation of Ferdinand V; the cross at the top contains a relic of the crown of thorns of Christ; the crown is kept in the Treasury of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague and is not displayed publicly except on exceptional and notable occasions, the last public showing being in 2008, 90th Anniversary of Czechoslovak independence; from a series of illustrations of famous royal crowns published by the cigarette manufacturer, Godfrey Phillips, to coincide with the public interest in royalty and regalia after the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937;
