Joseph Cundall

British photographer, 1818-1895

Born 22 September 1818; died 10 January 1895. Cundall was an early member of the Calotype Society in 1847. Cundall began a photographic business called 'The Photographic Institution' in London in 1852. Robert Howlett joined the business as a partner around 1855, and in 1853, Philip Henry Delamotte worked there as a photographer. Cundall was also a publisher who used photographs by Delamotte to illustrate his books. In 1855, Cundall toured Yorkshire with Delamotte, and they published a book on the Abbeys of Yorkshire. Cundall was a member of the Photographic Society of London.
