In the Bear's Pit (Colour Litho)

In the bear pit. At the zoo of the Overseas Exhibition in Naples, the little girl Maria Porta, who leaned too far from the parapet to throw candy to a couple of white bears, slips and falls. Screams of gruesome rise from the crowd. Male and female engage in a furious fight for the possession of the prey, then the first biting the baby. The guardian Salvatore Grassi rushes, takes a big iron bar and jumps into the pit. He defends himself and attacks. Torn Maria from the bear's jaws, he takes her out.
