Image description

The Battle of Gettysburg (local Listeni/ˈɡɛtɨsbɜrɡ/, with an /s/ sound)[6] was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania between Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle (1890-1970) was a French general and statesman who led the Free French Forces during World War II. He later founded the French Fifth Republic in 1958 and served as its first president from 1959 to 1969. Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower (1890-1969) was the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. He had previously been a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. Behind de Gaulle: Vernon A. Walters (1917-2002) United States Army officer and a diplomat, and President Eisenhower's interpreter.
