Image description: Painting. Benvenuto Tisi, called Garofalo. Christ and the miracle of the swine. Christ stands, full length, centre, full front, in blue and deep rose, pointing His right hand at the man possessed, who sits with a bare torso and a gyve on his right, the leader pointing. On the right of Christ two disciples, one full face, the second with his back turned. In right background the swine run into the sea. Beyond, a large ship, a sailor swarming up a mast, and a white horse's head projecting from a porthole. A city on a peak in centre distance. Inscribed l.l.: No. 232 D.Beno D.GAROFANO. A late painting, dating from the 1540's. Oil on canvas. 47 1/4ins. by 61ins. Provenance: Aldobrandini Collection (according to Collins Baker); Camuccini collection, Rome; Acquired with the Camuccini collection by the 4th Duke of Northumberland in 1856.
