St. Francis Receiving the Rule of the Order by Pope Honorius III (San Francesco riceve la regola da papa Onorio III), by Domenico Ghirlandaio, 1482-1485, 15th Century, fresco Whole artwork view. In the central lunette of the chapel is depicted a complex scene, set under a porch: on the right, Saint Francis kneels down in front of Pope Honorius 3rd, who blesses him while giving him the rules of the order; the central part of the painting is taken by Franciscan friars kneeling down in front of the pope, and members of the clergy who sti down attending to the historical event; six male characters emerge from a staircase; on the right edge stand out four notables standing up, among whom can be recognized, form the left, Antonio Pucci, Lorenzo de' Medici and the committee Francesco Sassetti with Federigo, his youngest son; to these characters are symmetrically counterposed, on the left edge, three more male figures representing Sassetti's sons; on the background, Piazza della Signoria in Florence, studded with people in their everyday life; more frescoes decorate the lateral lunettes and the rib vaults of the cupola Domenico Ghirlandaio Church of Santa Trinita
