The all-time Cuban leader in home runs with 487, Kindelan will become one of five Cuban stars that will play professional baseball in Japan. It is the first time in more than four decades that Cuban players have been allowed to play professionally outside of their island nation. Kindelan played on Cuban national teams that won gold medals at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics, and silver at the 2000 Games.
