Israelis demonstrate for peace at the monument marking the site of the November 1995 assassination of Yitzhak Rabin by a right-wing Jew opposed to his peace policies, September 16. Israel's right-wing leader Benjamin-Netanyahu had been scheduled to lay a wreath at the memorial during an official tour of Tel Aviv but called off the ceremony over what an aide called security reasons. Rabin's widow Leah, who has accused -Netanyahu of fostering a climate of hate that led to the assassination, said the real reason for the cancellation was because he feared he would be heckled and booed by the protesters.
