Aurelanio Flores carries a Mammoth's fossilized femur in his village of Chimalatlan in the Mexican state of Morelos, in this photo taken June 12, 2001. The villagers stumbled upon the fossilized bones in a cave as they were looking for a spring to provide water for their community. The workers carried about 40 fossils down with them, but were told to stop digging until national paleontological authorities could take over the excavation. The villagers say they would like the bones to be kept in the community so that people can come to visit their discovery.
