Cor! What a bargain!, 1992 (screenprint on 300 gsm card, laminated in plastic)

This is the artist's first print, though he does not see it as a print in the traditional sense of the term. The only reproductive element is the screenprinted Day-Glo colour (Landy made versions in green, pink, orange and yellow). The sheet was then laminated in plastic and drawn on with a black marker-pen. Landy wanted the print to have a street-market quality and its subject relates to a series the artist made in 1992 for an exhibition called Closing Down Sale. This was conceived as a comment on the recession and consisted of huge sale notices and supermarket trolleys full of secondhand goods. Ironically, of course, while commenting on the market these works were also part of the market, since they were for sale. Published by Paragon Press
