Chandler, Maricopa County, Arizona. Cotton pickers improving their housing, from Santa Ana, Coleman County, Texas. Lost their farm in 1937. Worked on halves for one year, then went to day labor, driving tractor for .00 to .50 per day. Blames crop reduction program and change from teams to tractor operation of larger farms. "Never did pay a poll tax. Would have paid if I could". Arrived in Arizona Sept. 1940. Wife ill. Now picking cotton, camping in private camp, paying $.75 per week ground rent. Entire camp uses water and toilet of an abandoned nearby service station.
