On 15 February 1966, a few months before the Bavona power station and the Maggia power station's Altstafel-Bedretto-Robiei feed tunnel were commissioned, a tragic accident occurred in the Robiei-Bedretto tunnel in which 17 workers, 15 of them Italian, were suffocated.
