Whole artwork view. View of the inner courtyard in which the pavement, the stairs and the well curb create a strong contrast with the wall with the arched gate, built with dark basalt; originally al-Hallabat was a small Roman fort built to protect the Via Nova Trajana from the bedouins' assaults; it was enlarged and transformed into a fort with four corner towers during the 4th century A. D. ; it was further reshaped during the byzantine and Islamic era, when it became a residence forthe Umayyads. Castle of al-Hallabat, Zarqa Governorate, Zarqa, Jordan
