A restoration technician at the National Museum of Paleontology shows a set of Mastadon teeth excavated from the Tomayate River site June 20, 2001 in San Salvador, El Salvador. The site, located 15 kilometers(about 9 miles) from the capital, is the largest deposit of pre-historic bones found in Central America and has yielded 22 species including Giant sloths, Mastadons, and a Giant Armadillo. Laser-Argon testing has shown the remains to be 8.5 million years old, leaving paleontologists to conclude that the Central American land brigde is much older then previously thought.
