Swiss women on their first walk to the ballot box: In 1952, Geneva women were allowed to vote at the ballot box for the first time on whether they themselves wished to exercise their political rights in cantonal and communal areas. The question was clearly answered in the affirmative with 35,133 votes in the affirmative and 6,346 against. Women stand in a queue at the polling station waiting to cast their first ballot.
