Luise Rainer (born 1910) German-born film actress. She was the first woman to win two Academy Awards (for best actress), and the first person to win them consecutively. The first was for The Great Ziegfeld (1936) and the second for The Good Earth (1937). However, her career subsequently went into steep decline, because audience expectation was too high to fulfil. Some film historians consider her the "most extreme case of an Oscar victim in Hollywood mythology".
