A giant model of the head of the "Bavaria" statue passes a statue of King Ludwig I of Bavaria during a parade for the 150th anniversary of the Bavaria statue in Munich, July 16. The statue represents a Germanic amazon, an allegoric impersonation of Bavaria's (the country's) power and strength. The sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler designed this monumental statue which was built from 1844 till 1850 by a request of Bavaria's King Ludwig I. The statue was a model for the statue of Liberty in New York.
