Churchill's farewell. After 55 years of activity in the service of Great Britain, Sir Winston Churchill, now eighty-year-old, resigned as Prime Minister and retired to private life. The night before announcing the big decision, the statesman offered a solemn banquet attended by Queen Elizabeth, Philip of Edinburgh and the closest collaborators of the last period . At the door of the Downing Street building, after the reception, Churchill takes his leave from the Sovereign; he bows, kisses her hand. Sir Anthony Eden succeeds him.
