The surrender of Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain, 10 July, 1810 after a French siege which had begun on 26 April. The three French soldiers in the picture, Thirion, Bombois and Belleret, had been sent forward to examine a breach in the city walls following bombardment. They were not challenged and soon after the Spanish garrison led by Field Marshal Perez de Harrasti accepted an offer of surrender to France's Marshal Ney. After a work by Charles Motte.
