Image description

Empire War Workers in Britain recruitment poster. A Sikh Indian man, wearing a suit and tie, inspects a piece of factory equipment, titled: ON WAR WORK IN BRITAIN: No. 1 - A SIKH FACTORY INSPECTOR. The text reads: 'Besides her soldiers, fighting in Italy and other parts of the world, India supplies arms workers for the United Nations' ever-growing fight against Axis aggression. These young Indians come to the United Kingdom where they are trained as specialists, examined and then returned to India to apply their knowledge to their own factories. Mr. K. Singh, seen above, is being trained as an inspector. His home is in a village near Amritsar. For many years he worked in a flour and cotton mill, and held the position of instructor fitter in the Lucknow Loco Works for ten years.' By British Civilian Organisation
