A volunteer worker at the headquarters of Myanmar's opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) sits next to a portrait of the party leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Yangon May 2, 2001. Fears are growing both inside and outside Myanmar that landmark talks between the ruling generals and opposition leader Suu Kyi are deadlocked and unless clear signs of progress emerge the process could founder. Nobel laureate Suu Kyi remains under house arrest in Yangon, over a decade since her party won general elections which were crushed by the nation's military rulers who still remain in power. JIR/PB
