A weekend in Küstrin-Kietz, 1944.

This amateur film is called "A weekend in Küstrin-Kietz" (today Kostrzyn nad Odra in Poland), summer 1944 Herr Suhling worked as an engineer on radar equipment in Berlin and visited his wife only on the weekends in Küstrin, which was considered more safe from air raids. She was pregnant at that time. Her husband filmed these peaceful days on 8/9 July, 1944, while the Wehrmacht was retreating on all frontlines. A few months later the Red Army crossed the Oder river at Küstrin. Most of the people in this film died. Herr and Frau Suhling escaped and finally settled in Hamburg with a baby, which never recovered from the cold train ride to the West.
