ARTIST DALE CHIHULY WITH ICE WALL IN JERUSALEM, 1999-10-03 (photo)

United States artist Dale Chihuly poses with huge chunks of ice that form a Millennium sculpture at the foot of the Old City walls nearby the Tower of David (L) as it is installed October 3. The 64-ton ice wall, imported from Alaska to Jerusalem, is a millennium display which probably won't see out the week as it is quickly melting. Chihuly, renowned for his glass sculptures, said he hoped visitors would see the dripping monument as a metaphorfor peace between Arabs and Jews. "If people see it as a symbol for the melting of tensions, then that's wonderful," he said as the piece dripped. It cost $100,000 to bring the ice from Alaska and install the artwork. JWH/ME
