Axminster carpet dress, c 1990s. This dress is part of a collection designed by Vivienne Westwood (b 1941) for a Brinton's carpet advertising campaign. The dress weighs 15 kg and the back of the carpet was softened to manipulate it into shape. Dressmakers used special carpet-joining machinery to sew the carpet into a dress. ©SSPL/Science Museum
