Chisman collection 8: Scenes in New and old Delhi, 1940 (Part 2 of 4)

Public buildings by Lutyens in New Delhi and street scenes in Old Delhi. Including street stalls, pottery shop, street musicians, dancers (possibly Hijra ie transvestite), worship at Jama Masjid. At the British Residence, there is visiting knife-grinder, pedlars and carpet-seller. Close study of the household retainers receiving their pay from Mrs Chisman. (05.41 to 07.19) Jama Masjid (Friday mosque) with worshippers followed by shot of worshippers at another open site. (07.21 to 10.30) British residence in New Delhi. Mrs Chisman inspects garden, lingering shots of poinsettia tree and bougainvillae.
