CUBAN EXILE LEADER SPEAKS OUT AGAINST US MIGRANT POLICY, 1999-07-12 (photo)

Ramon Saul Sanchez, president of the Democracy Movement, a Miami based Cuban exile group, issues a statement July 12 regarding the U.S. policy on dealing with migrants attempting to reach the U.S. mainland. Sanchez is asking the Clinton administration to overturn a 1995 immigration agreement with Cuba's government in which Cubans picked up at sea are returned to their homeland. "We recognize the rights of the United States to protect its borders. However, we are basically astonished by some of the means, by some of the techniques, that they are using, " Sanchez said.
