Video description

Flying low off Reculver on the Kent coast, a Royal Air Force (RAF) Avro Lancaster bomber trials a protype Upkeep bouncing bomb in May 1943, designed by the engineer and inventor Barnes Neville Wallis. The secret practice runs took place ahead of Operation Chastise, the bombing raid on German dams in the Ruhr valley in the early hours of the 17th May 1943, which immortalised the RAF's No. 617 Squadron as the "Dambusters".
