A demonstration against the arrest of Spiegel editors took place in Munich in October 1962. In front right the student leader Christian Semler with a poster on which article 5/1/3 of the Basic Law states "A censorship does not take place". The article "Conditionally Ready for Defense" by Conrad Ahlers, published in the Spiegel magazine on October 8,1962, led to a search of the publishing rooms of the Spiegel editorial offices in Hamburg and Bonn and to the arrest of several persons, including publisher Rudolf Augstein and editor-in-chief Claus Jacobi, for "treason". The accusations turned out to be unfounded, Federal Minister of Defense Franz-Josef Strau� lost his office.
