Feb. 11, 1954 - Suspended Girton Girl Students Arrive In London. The Indian girl students from Girton College, who were “rusticated” for four days were worried yesterday - about what their relatives in India will say. Anita Chakravarty said as she caught a train for London” We don't want our people in India to hear about this. a suspension of this kind is viewed with greater gravity in India”. Miss Chakravarty and Miss Ranjana Ray were with four other students when two men undergraduates knocked on the window of a ground-floor room in the women's college after midnight. The girls let them in, though men are not allowed in the college after 10 p.m. A tutor heard men's voices and investigated. the girls were suspended. (“Rusticating” means that a student must not approach within 25 miles of Great St. Mary's Church in the centre of Cambridge). Keystone Photo Shows: - Ranjana Ray (Left), and Anita Chakravarty, seen on their arrival in London yesterday. they will stay at the Y.W.C.A until they return to college on Saturday
