Before documentary filmmaker Ken Burns takes you on a journey, he takes one himself. The creator of eponymous documentaries about subjects ranging from baseball to the U.S. Civil War wrestled for six years with his latest project, "Jazz, A Film By Ken Burns." The 18-hour-long documentary meant sifting through hundreds of archives for photographs and dozens of other sources for film footage. It also involved "tracking down people and begging to please let us use these photographs," Burns said.
