General Baden Powell in C S Rolls' 12 hp Panhard, 1903. Photograph from an album of images compiled by English motorist, motor car manufacturer and aviator, Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910). Rolls is shown in the car with Robert Baden-Powell (1857-1941), hero of the siege of Mafeking in the Boer War and founder of the scout movement, and two other men in military uniform. In 1903, Baden-Powell became Inspector General of Cavalry for England, Ireland, Egypt and South Africa, and attended military manoeuvres in the autumn of that year. Rolls founded Rolls-Royce Ltd with Sir Frederick Henry Royce (1863-1933) in 1906, creating one of the world's most famous motoring companies.
