The clean-up of 400 tonnes of dioxin-tainted soil recovered from the site of the 2000 Olympic Games, has led the environmental group Greenpeace to give the authorities a rare pat on the back, with the final treatment of the soil to start on Thursday to mark the 400-day countdown to the games' opening ceremony. The OCA claims that after the treatment, which is part of the A$137 million (US$89 million) remedition of the Olympic site, the soil should end up clean enough to plant vegetables in. DG/TAN/WS
