GUATEMALAN BISHOP MONT AND US FORENSICS EXPERT GIVE PRESS CONFERENCE, 1998-09-18 (photo)

US pathologist Robert Bux (L) and the head of the Catholic Church in Guatemala, Bishop Rios Mont speak to the press after Bux examined the body of murdered bishop Juan Gerardi for dog bite marks September 18. Gerardi was exhumed yesterday in order for experts to be able to establish whether or not he had been bitten by the principal murder suspect's dog. The experts openly disagreed today though, Bux insisted there was no dog bite mark on the bishop, while another forensics expert from Spain maintained that there were. The focus of the long running investigation into the murder of the human rights crusading bishop has switched from a political crime to trying to prove that another priest set his dog on Gerardi then attacked him with a slab of concrete.
