HAIR SCULPTURER WORKS FOR MARDI GRAS PREPERATIONS IN SYDNEY, 2000-03-02 (photo)

Alex Rendon from the Spanish street theatre group called 'Osadia' works on a hair sculpture in Sydney February 2 as part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Cultural Festival. Rendon and his partner Eva Gonzalas have been offering free hair designs to members of the public all this week, work that usually costs around A$300 (US$180), using such materials as wire, paint, lots of hair-spray, hair-gel and small toys to create their designs. The Festival will culminate in the Mardi Gras Parade this Saturday night involving over 6000 people, around 200 floats and an expected crowd of around 600,000 people, making it one of the largest events of its kind in the world.
