At the beginning of his rule, former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic addressed Serb supporters in Gazimestan, Kosovo on June 28, 1989, at the site where 600 years earlier, the Serbs lost a battle against the Turks in 1389. Milosevic outlined, at this venue, his new policy towards the Serbian province of Kosovo, including stripping the region of its autonomy. Milosevic was handed over to the custody of the United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague on Thursday, the Serbian government said. Milosevic was on his way to The Hague on Thursday to face war crimes charges at the international criminal tribunal after being handed over by Serbia's reformist authorities. PEK/
