An unidentified holy man of the Samaritan community point out bullet holes in the wall of the 75-year-old synagogue October 31, 2000 morning after it was damaged when Israeli helicopter gunships attacked an nearby Palestinian Fatah headquarters building last night on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Nablus. Israeli helicopter gunships last night hit three headquarters of President Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction and vowed today not to tolerate a burgeoning guerrilla war. The Samaritan community consists of 320 people who live in Nablus and nearby Mount Gerzim whcih they consider a sacred site. They observe some Jewish rituals and ancient written language but do not regards themselves as Jews. The Israeli army apologised for the damage.
