HURRICANE CENTER TRACKS THREE SYSTEMS, 1998-08-22 (photo)

As Hurricane Specialist Mike Harper works at his station (R), National Hurricane Center spokesman Frank Lepore (L) holds a conference call with television weather forecasters as a tracking map shows the positions of Hurricane Howard in the Pacific Ocean, Hurricane Bonnie in the Caribbean and Tropical Depression Charley, which made landfall today in Texas. Howard continues on a westerly track, away from the United States. Bonnie continues to track toward the U.S. with the centre about 150 miles north northeast of Turk Island in the Turks and Caicos chain at latitude 23 north and longitude 70.5 west. Bonnie is gaining strength as it travels west northwest at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds at 85mph. Hurricane warnings are posted for the Turks and Caicos Islands and southeast and central Bahamas. CB/KM
