Jan. 01, 1954 - Spanish Cargo Vessel Rams London Bridge: Thousands of homeward bound City workers stopped on their way home this evening to each efforts to refloat the 487 feet Spanish cargo vessel” Monte Uriquiola” (7,723-tons) which jammed one of the South Bank buttresses of London Bridge as she was staring out on a 14 days round cruise to the Canary Islands . The ship was preparing to leave her berth and had cast off when the wind and the incoming tide slowed her round and brought her broadside against the bridge.
